๐ Location: North Texas
๐ Who Is Richard KB5JBV?
I’m Richard G. Bailey Sr., better known on the airwaves as KB5JBV. I’ve been an active amateur radio operator since 1988 โ the kind who believes in soldering irons, emergency nets, and the power of a good story. Most folks know me as the host of Resonant Frequency: The Amateur Radio Podcast, a legacy show built to help new hams find their footing and give experienced operators a fresh look at the hobby we all love.
But my roots in radio go deeper than the mic. Iโve held leadership roles, built repeaters, run public service nets, and helped keep communications alive when the commercial systems failed.
๐ก Amateur Radio Background
- Assistant Section Manager, ARRL North Texas Section (multiple terms)
- Official Observer and Relay Station
- Digital Manager for the North Texas STX
- Volunteer Examiner and Technical Specialist
- Emergency Coordinator for Kaufman County, Texas
- RACES Assistant Radio Officer, City of Mesquite, Texas
- Past President, HAM Association of Mesquite
๐ง Podcasts & Projects
Radio isnโt just something I do โ itโs how I think. Over the years Iโve created multiple podcast series to help bring radio culture, knowledge, and curiosity to the world:
- ๐๏ธ Resonant Frequency: The original longform show about amateur radio education, commentary, gear talk, and interviews.
- ๐ Richardโs Radio Adventures: A shorter, mobile-friendly series with quick tips, field notes, and operating insights.
- ๐ Strangely Enough: A short-form paranormal podcast exploring the unknown โ a companion to the blog Paranormal Stuff for the Simple Minded.
- ๐ง Linux in the Ham Shack: Co-creator and co-host of the first 100 episodes of this show about open source software and ham radio.
๐ Legacy & Community Impact
Whether you heard me on the air or through your headphones, my goal has always been the same: Teach. Encourage. Preserve.
My podcasts, blog posts, and technical articles continue to help hams explore antennas, digital modes, public service work, and even the occasional haunted signal. Even though new podcast episodes are paused, the archive lives on as a resource for curious minds.
๐ก Other Endeavors
Outside the shack, Iโm a published author and digital creator. I run The Content Forge, where I offer tools, templates, and downloadable resources for writers and entrepreneurs. I also maintain a personal blog and help others share stories that matter โ whether thatโs about radios, mysteries, or making something meaningful with your own hands.
